GE BailOut!? What About Your Bailout?
Whoopie!! Happy days are here again..well almost, at least for GE. GE Capital has been approved to participate in the FDIC’s Temporary Liquidity Guarantee Program. The FDIC will now guarantee all GE Capital debt (subject to some limits) issued between this Friday (Nov. 14) and June 30, 2009. Banks already have this deal. Now GE Capital does too.
A GE failure would mean hundreds of thousands out of work, so its not surprising some sort of work out plan would be put in place. I’m sure the other two automobile companies won’t be far behind in reaching a bailout plan also.
But here’s the $64,000 question, where is your bailout? By the way, why a $64,000 question and not $74k or any other number? Maybe because of the old game show. Anyway. The public needs to be aware that there won’t be any quick ’saviour’ plans that’s going to be implemented and take all your financial woes away.
Your bills won’t stop coming every month now that Obama has won the election. Those credit collections callers won’t be any more friendlier because the GE bailout is under way. Don’t be surprised if you pull your credit scores and find that they haven’t magically increased 100+ points.
Here’s the reality. The GE bailout is great for GE and helps keep 100’s of thousands of workers with a job, but your financial stability is your responsibility. If you thought that credit was important before, you better believe its going to become absolutely imperative that you maintain a great credit score. The sub-prime mortgage crisis has seen to that.
