Credit History Repair – How You Can Repair Your Credit Report History
By John C. White Platinum Quality Author

If you are like so many others you may not know you can repair your credit report history. Just because it’s in black and white does not mean it’s carved in stone. You just need to know what to do in order to begin. The first step is to familiarize yourself with the credit reporting agencies.

There are many credit reporting agencies. However, the three biggest are Transunion, Equifax, and Experian. These are the ones most financial agencies use to get your credit history. This is why you want to get your report from one of these three reporting agencies. Everyone is entitled by law to one report from each of the three once a year. You can also request a report when you have been denied credit. Normally the charge is $10 for each report.

When you get your credit file, take a look at it to determine what has been reported. You will first want to make sure the name and social security number on the report are yours. Sometimes, with the millions of people who are on file, mistakes can happen. You need to closely examine your credit report to make sure there are no mistakes made.

There may be charges on the report you do not recognize. Examine them closely. This could be a sign of identity theft. You also need to watch for credit checks that you did not authorize. You can have a soft check performed by a creditor when they are thinking about raising your credit limit or just checking to see how your credit file is doing. Creditors have been known to cancel credit cards and revolving charge loans when they think you are over extending yourself.

You want to make sure that you are paying all your bills on time. You will also want to make sure this is reflected on your credit report. Some creditors only report every quarter. Others report every 30 days. You can see how your creditors report by looking at your file.

If you have several credit cards, you should consider getting rid of a couple. This will eliminate some of your debt. It will also show you are being wiser with your money. If you do not have a credit card, get one. You can choose from a secured card or an unsecured card. The secured card means you have put money in the bank, which equals your spending limit. The unsecured cards need to be acquired with great caution. Many times you are issued the card and then charged an astronomical fee, which is charged to the card. You actually start the history of the card in debt to approximately $200 or more. The credit limit is only $300. So you are making payments on all the fees associated with the card for the first six months or so.

If you have absolutely no credit and need to establish some, the best thing you can do is ask a family member or close friend to co-sign on a loan with you. Make it a very small loan. Make the payments on time and when it is paid off, do it again, but this time without the cosigner. You will be surprised at how fast your credit score will rise.

You can repair the credit report history with just a few simple steps. You just need to do it slowly. This will avoid any further problems in the future.
